En un torrente de preocupación de parte de los católicos en los Estados Unidos, War Relief Services es creado por los obispos de los EE. UU. Para ayudar a miles de sobrevivientes y refugiados de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Desde el principio, nuestro principal operativo ha sido ayudar a las personas según las necesidades, independientemente de su raza, credo o nacionalidad, y en asociación con organizaciones locales, en particular las agencias de la Iglesia Católica. El obispo Bryan McEntegart es nombrado director ejecutivo fundador.

Un avión bimotor de la Fuerza Aérea de los EE. UU. Se estrella contra las oficinas de CRS en el Empire State Building, matando a 11 empleados.
